Did you know that the FDA considers tampons and pads medical devices which means they are not required to fully disclose their ingredients?
Conventional tampons are made using a blend of synthetic rayon and cotton.
Rayon: When it’s bleached, a byproduct called dioxin is released. The FDA states that tampons have low levels of dioxin that pose no health risk, however, the EPA says that there is no safe level of dioxin exposure. Dioxin has been linked to cervical cancer, breast cancer, endometriosis, and immune system suppression.
Cotton: One of the most heavily sprayed crops. Over 90% of all cotton is sprayed with glyphosate. Glyphosate is linked to neurological diseases, endocrine disruption, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome, osteoarthritis, fatty liver disease, kidney failure, insulin resistance, diabetes, and cancer.
The ingredients in pads aren’t much better.
